As a rule of thumb, always wear gloves when cutting any sort of pepper. Unless you are absolutely sure that it is a regular bell pepper. Today I underestimated the power of Hungarian pepper thinking that it was a cubanelle pepper. My fingers and hands were unbearably "hot" 3 hours post handling. I could not even enjoy my tasty dinner.
The only relief I got was from running cold water over my hands and of course time. Time heals all.
